“Journey“ in New York City

As many of our viewers know The Journey and it's curator Emma Thompson are a vital part of our film and helped us to get our message across. As well as Emma Thompson herself being a great supporter and advocate not only for the cause of Human Trafficking but also for Fatal Promises.

Therefore we are very proud to welcome and support The Journey in NYC.

The Journey is an interactive art exhibit consisting of 7 shipping containers, each designed and created by a different artist. Walking through it the viewer gets a better feeling of the journey a person, who has been trafficked goes through. The installation was first put on display in London's Trafalgar Square in 2007 and has since then traveled to Vienna, Austria and now NY.

With the support of Major Bloomberg and the City of New York it has now been put on display at Washington Pl on the east side of Washington Square Park. It will open to the public today at noon and will be open every day from noon to 8pm until Sunday November 16th. It is free of charge. If you are in the New York area, please do come by and check it out. You will never be the same! To find out more about The Journey please visit: www.helenbamber.org

European Premiere coming up

“Film is one
way to make human rights on all levels more comprehensible“, Roland Schmidt, representing one of the partners of the film festival „this human world“, stressed at a press conference in Vienna, Austria, on Monday. The festival will open on 3 December 2009 in Vienna with Fatal Promises. This will be its European premiere. Kat will be there for a Q & A afterwards.

At the press conference Mr. Wegenstein, the founder of and the driving force behind „this human world“ stressed what also is the core issue in Fatal Promises: The films shown confront the sometimes over-used values such as freedom, democracy, justice, brotherhood, peace and responsibility with the harsh realities of ongoing violations of human rights through oppression, coercion, discrimination and disdain. Mr. Wegenstein also pointed out that the festival does not emphasize good or evil, just or injust, perpetrator or victim, but rather the relationship between humans and the underlying causes that lead them to violate basic rights.

The festival will run from 3 December to 13 December 2009 and will show more than 120 films. Tickets: www.thishumanworld.com

Fatal Promises coming home to Austria

Leading up to it's European Premiere Fatal Promises has caused quiet a stir in Kat's home town Vienna. The film will be opening this year's Human Rights Film Festival "This Human World" on December 3rd at the Burg Kino, one of Vienna's prime locations and most traditional theaters. Days after the tickets went on sale for opening night and therefore the premiere of Fatal Promises the theater was almost sold out.

The Press in Vienna has also expressed great interest in Fatal Promises early on ever since Johannes Wegenstein, the founder,  announced that the film will be opening this years festival. Kat and her mother and co-producer Anneliese have been interviewed by several magazines and newspapers and will be on Austrian Radio Ö3 this weekend.

When asked how Kat feels about showing her film at home she says: "I am very honored that our film is opening the festival and I have to say that it is very fitting for a Human Rights Film Festival, because after all I believe that the exploitation, the abuse and the lack of freedom victims of Human Trafficking experience are three very basic violations of our human rights."

Kat also mentioned that she is very happy that a festival like this exists here in Vienna and she hopes that a lot of people will come out and also see as many films as possible during the festival. "Some of these documentaries will never get a chance to reach the mainstream audience via TV or DVD, so this is a wonderful opportunity for both the audience and the film to see and be seen."
